Randle Ayrton

Biography

Frederick Randle Ayrton was a British actor and polymath, born in Chester in 1869. He made his stage debut in 1890 and enjoyed success in London and America, with notable performances including Caesar Cregeen in "The Manxman" and Estavian in "The Romance of Seville". Ayrton also worked in film, beginning with the London Film Company in 1913, and was known for his portrayal of King Lear in the 1930s. He produced and directed, adding to his diverse career.
