Alfred Hawthorne "Benny" Hill was an English comedian, actor, and scriptwriter known for his groundbreaking TV program The Benny Hill Show, a comedy variety show that merged slapstick, burlesque, double entendre, and innuendo in live and filmed segments. He made his television debut in 1949 on BBC variety shows, developed his parodic sketches, and was voted TV personality of the year in 1954. The show became a global phenomenon, exported to over 100 countries, with an audience of over 21 million in 1971.
