Karlheinz Böhm was a German-born Austrian actor and philanthropist born on March 16, 1928, in Darmstadt, Germany. He gained international recognition for his roles as the psychopathic protagonist Mark in Peeping Tom and Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria in the Sissi trilogy. In addition to his acting career, Böhm was a devoted humanitarian who founded the trust Menschen für Menschen ("Humans for Humans"), helping those in need in Ethiopia.
