Steve Whitmire is an American puppeteer born on September 24, 1959. He began his career in the late 1970s and first gained prominence with the Muppets, originating roles such as Rizzo the Rat, Lips, and Wembley Fraggle. After Jim Henson's death in 1990, Whitmire took over the iconic roles of Kermit the Frog and Ernie, a position he held until his retirement in 2016.
