Kon Ichikawa was a versatile Japanese film director and screenwriter whose work spanned various genres and styles. He is notable for directing the anti-war films "The Burmese Harp" (1956) and "Fires on the Plain" (1959), as well as the award-winning documentary "Tokyo Olympiad" (1965). Ichikawa's film "An Actor's Revenge" (1963) exemplified his range, while "Odd Obsession" (1959) earned him a Jury Prize at Cannes in 1960.
