Anton Diffring was a German actor born Alfred Pollack in Koblenz, Rhineland-Palatinate, to a Jewish shop-owner and Christian mother. He studied acting in Berlin and Vienna before pursuing an extensive film and television career in the UK from the 1940s to the 1980s. Notable for his roles as Nazi officers and villains in World War II films and horror movies, Diffring primarily played antagonistic authority figures.
