Biography

Jewel Carmen was a pioneering American silent film actress who rose to prominence at just 15 years old, performing with Keystone Studios. Her career spanned the late 1910s, including notable roles in D.W. Griffith's Intolerance and Douglas Fairbanks' American Aristocracy, alongside her starring turns in Frank Lloyd's adaptations of Les Misérables and A Tale of Two Cities. Carmen's personal life was marred by scandal, including a high-profile statutory rape case that drew media attention before charges were dropped due to lack of evidence.
