Fred Emney was a character actor and comedian born in Prescot, Lancashire, to a music hall performer father. He made his film debut in 1935 and became known for playing posh, gruff roles often accompanied by a monocle. In the 1950s, he starred in his own TV show featuring sketches and piano pieces, which were later released on record. Emney passed away on Christmas Day 1980.
