Invention for Destruction

The film "Invention for Destruction" (1958) is a Czechoslovak black-and-white science fiction adventure film directed by Karel Zeman, starring Lubor Tokoš as Šimon Hart, Arnošt Navrátil as Profesor Roche, and Miloslav Holub as Count Artigas. Based on Jules Verne's 1896 novel Facing the Flag, the film combines live actors with various forms of animation to evoke the style of Victorian line engravings featured in the original editions of Verne's novels. A gang of pirates working for the evil Count Artigas kidnap a scientist and his assistant to obtain the secret of the scientist's futuristic weapon, intended to be used in the Count's plan for world domination.
