In a bizarre bureaucratic twist of fate, two schools are unwittingly merged due to wartime restrictions, leaving their headmasters locked in a battle for control and sanity. At Nutbourne College, an all-boys boarding school, Alastair Sim's Wetherby Pond is forced to navigate the chaos caused by the arrival of hundreds of girls from St Swithin's Girls' School. As he tries to appease the formidable Miss Whitchurch, played by Margaret Rutherford, and salvage his chances of becoming headmaster at a prestigious all-boys school, hilarious misunderstandings and classroom shenanigans ensue. The result is a sidesplitting comedy of errors that pokes fun at post-war red tape and the absurdities of school life.
