In Miami, art critic Morf Vandewalt (Jake Gyllenhaal) attends an art exhibition alongside his friend Josephina, who works for Rhodora Haze, owner of the Haze Gallery. Unfulfilled in his love life, Morf starts a sexual relationship with Josephina, but their connection is complicated by her growing attachment to art dealer Damrish. After an unknown artist's paintings are discovered, a supernatural force enacts revenge on those who have allowed their greed and commercialism to get in the way of art, claiming lives in a twisted game that blurs the lines between creativity and destruction, as Morf delves deeper into the mystery behind the artworks.
