In 18th-century France, a beautiful and chaste young woman named Justine is falsely accused and sentenced to death after her sister Juliette becomes embroiled in prostitution and marries a wealthy noble. As Justine escapes from prison and flees for her life, she faces an endless parade of predators and deviants who seek to claim her virtue and destroy her innocence. Eventually, Justine finds refuge with a painter named Raymond, but even there, she is forced to confront the darkest aspects of human nature before ultimately finding solace in the love and protection of her sister Juliette.
