Akim Tamiroff
Biography
Akim Tamiroff was an Armenian-American actor born on October 29, 1899, in either Tiflis or Baku to Armenian parents. He trained at the Moscow Art Theatre drama school for nine years before establishing a career in Hollywood, despite his thick Russian accent. Tamiroff won the first Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "For Whom the Bell Tolls" (1943) and appeared in over 80 films between 1923 and 1960.
