The General Died at Dawn

In 1930s China during the civil war, mercenary O'Hara (Gary Cooper) is sent by General Yang's enemy to buy arms in Shanghai to help bring an end to Yang's tyranny. The mission involves trusting Peter Perrie and his daughter Judy, who are struggling financially, with a large sum of money meant for buying weapons for Yang's men. However, things take a dramatic turn when O'Hara encounters Judy at the hotel where General Yang has taken him prisoner, along with several other captives including Mr. Wu, Brighton, Leach, and Peter himself, after he betrays Yang by keeping the money in his suitcase instead of delivering it to Brighton as ordered.
