Tom Andrews (Randolph Scott), a surveyor for the Canadian Pacific Railroad, faces opposition from fur trappers like Dirk Rourke and Dynamite Dawson as they stir up Indian rebellion to stop the railroad's construction. Dr. Edith Cabot (Jane Wyatt) intervenes as she is a pacifist, while Cecille Gautier (Nancy Olson), Andrews' girlfriend, becomes increasingly involved in uncovering the saboteurs behind the explosions that disrupt railway work.
