A 40-year-old German emergency doctor sets sail on a solo voyage from Gibraltar to Ascension Island in search of solitude and adventure, only to find herself caught in the midst of an unprecedented crisis when she discovers a badly damaged refugee boat adrift in the middle of the Atlantic. After spotting a group of over 100 asylum seekers struggling to stay alive, Rike must decide between her duty to save their lives and her own moral boundaries. With the help of a 14-year-old boy named Kingsley who has been rescued from the water, she embarks on a perilous journey to save as many people as possible, all while facing bureaucratic red tape and a shipping company's refusal to assist in the rescue.
