During the reign of King Zhou, Jiang Ziya (Jet Li) appears to several warriors and tells them that when he was younger, he let himself become possessed by the Black Dragon for his quest for power. The story follows Leizhenzi, a member of the Wing Adept tribe, who volunteers to find the "Sword of Light" with one of Jiang Ziya's gifts: a baby Dragon Prince whose growth is stunted. Shen Gong Bao animates an automaton named Blue Butterfly (Angelababy) to kill Leizhenzi, while Leizhenzi and another dragon, Ne Zha, travel to find the sword and the Dragon King of the East Sea.
