In 1988, a group of young Soviet conscripts say farewell to their families and loved ones before preparing to leave for military duty in Afghanistan. Fellow recruits form bonds as they train alongside veterans who share harrowing stories of war, leading them into the final months of the Soviet-Afghan War. The film's climax is loosely based on a real-life battle at Hill 3234, where the company faces a desperate and bloody struggle against the Mujahideen. In the end, only one man survives to tell the tale of loss, sacrifice, and the futility of war.
