Two friends, Alan McKim (John Gregson) and Ambrose Claverhouse (Kenneth More), bet on which of them will be the first to arrive back home after participating in the London to Brighton vintage car rally. Along with their wives, Wendy (Dinah Sheridan) and Rosalind (Kay Kendall), they embark on a series of escapades as they test the limits of their friendship, engineering, and patience, all while competing against each other.
