In the 1984 film "Gremlins," struggling inventor Randall Peltzer brings home a cute animal called a mogwai as a Christmas gift for his son Billy, played by Zach Galligan. The rules for caring for the mogwai are broken, and five more spawn from it, leading to chaos in their hometown of Kingston Falls. Phoebe Cates plays Kate Beringer, Billy's girlfriend, who becomes embroiled in the destruction caused by the mischievous creatures known as "gremlins."
