Ellen Dorrit Petersen stars as Louise, who hires Romanian maid Cosmina Stratan as Elena to be a surrogate mother due to her own infertility issues. As the pregnancy progresses, Elena's condition worsens and she begins to exhibit bizarre behavior, including hallucinations and nightmares. In the end, Elena dies under mysterious circumstances, but the baby is unharmed; Louise adopts the child and names her Shelley, who also displays strange behavior.
