In 1950s Princeton University, mathematics doctoral candidate Catherine Boyd falls in love thanks to her uncle Albert Einstein, who helps a car mechanic Ed Walters catch her attention by pretending to be a great physicist. Ed, a science-fiction hobbyist, poses as a genius with the help of Albert and his fellow scientists, convincing Catherine that he's developed a brilliant concept for a cold fusion-powered spacecraft.
