Mary

In 1931, Alfred Hitchcock directed Mary, a British-German thriller film based on the 1928 book Enter Sir John by Clemence Dane and Helen Simpson. Actress Olga Tschechowa plays Mary Baring, who is wrongly accused of murder alongside her troupe colleague's corpse, with only juror Sir John Menier (Alfred Abel) doubting her guilt to the end. Haunted by remorse, Sir John investigates on his own, eventually discovering that Mary was innocent and clearing her name after the real culprit, Handel Fane (Ekkehard Arendt), takes his own life in a tragic twist.
