Downhill

Ivor Novello stars as Roddy Berwick, a former school captain who is expelled and disowned by his family after taking the blame for a friend's scandal. He drifts through a series of humiliations, from a waiter to a gigolo, before ending up alone and desperate in a shabby room in Marseille. After a series of nightmarish hallucinations during a sea voyage, Roddy finds his way back home to his father, who joyfully welcomes him back and begs for his forgiveness, leading to Roddy's redemption and reinstatement at his former school.
