A Basque family saga spanning three generations, from 1875 to 1936, follows the intertwined stories of two families from the Third Carlist War to the Spanish Civil War. An eerie tale of loyalty, duty, and family legacy, the film explores the complex relationships between Carmelo Mendiluze (Kandido Uranga), a soldier who witnesses a pivotal moment in the war, and Manuel Iriguíbel (Carmelo Gómez), a neighbor whose cowardice is forever etched in history. The story is interwoven with the lives of the Iriguíbel family, particularly Ignacio (Carmelo Gómez), who becomes embroiled in a rivalry with Juan Mendiluze (Kandido Uranga), and the doomed love affair between Catalina (Ana Torrent) and Ignacio. As the decades pass, the families' animosity towards each other deepens, only to be reignited by the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War.
