The Damned Don't Cry

Joan Crawford stars as Ethel Whitehead, a woman who abandons her small-town marriage after her young son's death and leaves town, determined to discover a worthwhile life. She attracts the attention of a wealthy customer and begins to model dresses, shedding her morals to become an escort for wealthy clients. She draws honest accountant Martin Blackford into the criminal underworld, encouraging him to participate in a casino gambling plot masterminded by crime boss George Castleman, whom she also reciprocates romantic advances for.
