Waiting for Anya

During World War II, Jo, a young shepherd, helps smuggle Jewish children across the border from southern France into Spain, aided by the widow Horcada (Anjelica Huston) and later by Benjamin (Frederick Schmidt), a Jewish father who is searching for his daughter Anya. The group faces numerous challenges and dangers, including the arrival of a menacing Nazi detachment in their village. With the help of his grandfather and father, a former German prisoner, Jo works to keep the children safe and find a way to Spain. The film is a heart-wrenching drama based on Michael Morpurgo's 1990 novel of the same name.
