A divorced playwright and his therapist ex-partner navigate new relationships and their daughter, as a couple's divorce has profound reverberations for their entire extended family. Holly Hunter plays Eleanor Weller, whose anger wells up when her ex-partner, Tony Shalhoub's Adam Weller, attends a friend's graduation without her. Meanwhile, their daughter, Maud, played by Cristin Milioti, works on her PhD and begins to explore relationships, including one with a Lebanese man, Omar Metwally's Samir Kamali.
