Lloyd Dobler, played by John Cusack, is an average student and eternal optimist who is smitten with Diane Court, the beautiful and valedictorian classmate. The two unexpectedly fall for each other, but their relationship is put to the test when Diane's over-protective father disapproves of their match. As Lloyd tries to win Diane's heart, he faces challenges from her father's disapproval and his own uncertain future.
