Barnacle Bill

Alec Guinness stars as Captain William Horatio Ambrose, a Royal Navy officer with a debilitating problem: seasickness. The former officer purchases a dilapidated amusement pier with his life savings and, with the help of Tommy, a former RN rating, and local teenagers, repairs it. Ambrose then attracts happy, paying passengers with his stationary "cruise" and foils plans by the town council, led by Mayor Crowley and Arabella Barrington, to demolish the pier. As he drifts over to France, he is hailed as a naval hero.
