Musician Max Tooney (Pruitt Taylor Vince) visits a music shop to sell his prized Conn trumpet, where he plays the instrument one last time, revealing the story of Danny Boodman T. D. Lemon 1900, a foundling who was named and raised by Danny Boodman (Bill Nunn), a coal-man from the SS Virginian's boiler room. The boy grows up to be a musical prodigy, never leaving the ship, and becomes renowned for his piano skills, even challenging famed jazz musician Jelly Roll Morton to a duel. As Max searches for Danny 1900 years later, he discovers his friend's final moments, and the two share a poignant goodbye as the ship sinks.
