During World War II, a platoon of seventeen Japanese soldiers is stationed on an island in the Solomon Archipelago. After American forces bypass their position and a storm destroys their radio, the platoon is stranded. Lieutenant Kuroki (Tatsuya Mihashi) maintains discipline as he oversees the construction of a boat for their escape. The situation is mirrored by an American platoon, led by Captain Dennis Bourke (Clint Walker), who must navigate the challenges of being stranded on the same island as the Japanese. As the two platoons struggle to survive, they are forced to make a temporary truce and cooperate to overcome their tribulations.
