Ballon

The 2018 German thriller drama film "Ballon" directed by Michael Herbig tells the true story of two families, the Strelzyks and the Wetzels, who attempt to escape the GDR with a homemade hot air balloon in 1979. The Strelzyk family, including Karoline Schuch as Doris Strelzyk, Friedrich Mücke as Peter Strelzyk, and Jonas Holdenrieder as Frank Strelzyk, successfully float across the sky from Pößneck, Thuringia to Naila, Bavaria, but their attempt is soon discovered by the Stasi. As the Stasi closes in, the families must rebuild their escape plan and navigate the danger of being caught.
