Le retour du héros

In the Burgundy countryside during the Napoleonic Wars, Captain Charles-Grégoire Neuville (Jean Dujardin) gets engaged to Pauline Beaugrand, whose elder sister Elisabeth (Mélanie Laurent) has quickly realised that the man is a liar and a fraud. To cheer her up, Elisabeth starts forging letters, telling Pauline that Neuville has been posted to India, fighting the British and growing tobacco. When Elisabeth finally discovers that the penniless deserter is actually her fiancé, he charms his way back into her life, revealing that he now has a diamond mine in India and is prepared to sell shares.
