El verdugo

In this satirical dark comedy, José Luis Rodríguez (Nino Manfredi), a funeral parlour employee, marries Carmen, the daughter of executioner Amadeo (José Isbert), and must take over her father's profession after his retirement. As José Luis navigates his new role, he is forced to carry out an execution in Mallorca, despite his reluctance, in order to receive the housing and salary he was promised by the government. The film is set against the backdrop of Francoist Spain and explores themes of mortality, morality, and the complexities of societal expectations.
