A poor farmer, Natha, struggles to earn enough money for his family. After discovering he will lose his farm if he doesn't pay off his loans, Natha is offered financial help by the village headman, who suggests committing suicide for the sake of his family. The plan is reported on the news, and Natha becomes a celebrity, attracting visitors and businesses to the village. The ruling party tries to bribe Natha to prevent his suicide, while the opposition encourages him to do so, using media attention to advance their agendas. In the chaos, a warehouse fire kills a journalist, and the government mistakenly attributes his death to Natha, refusing to compensate his family.
