Le Mépris

Contempt is a 1963 French New Wave drama film written and directed by Jean-Luc Godard, based on Alberto Moravia's 1954 novel Il disprezzo. The film follows a playwright, Paul Javal, whose marriage begins to fall apart during the troubled production of a film adaptation of Homer's Odyssey. Paul's wife, Camille Javal (Brigitte Bardot), joins him on the first day of the project at Cinecittà, where she becomes increasingly uneasy due to her husband's growing closeness to the producer, Jeremiah Prokosch (Jack Palance). As tensions rise, Camille's suspicions of Paul's infidelity deepen, ultimately leading to a devastating car crash that changes the course of their lives forever.
