Ogniem i mieczem

The film "Ogniem i Mieczem" (1999) is a historical drama directed by Jerzy Hoffman, based on Henryk Sienkiewicz's novel "With Fire and Sword". The movie tells the story of the Cossack rebellion against the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the mid-17th century. Jan Skrzetuski (Michał Żebrowski), a lieutenant of Prince Jeremi Wiśniowiecki, rescues Bohdan Khmelnytsky (Bohdan Stupka) from bandits, but soon finds himself caught up in the rebellion, alongside nobleman Jan Onufry Zagłoba (Krzysztof Kowalewski) and warrior Longinus Podbipięta (Wiktor Zborowski). The film explores themes of loyalty, betrayal, and survival in the face of war and rebellion.
