Paul Newman stars as Frank Galvin, a down-on-his-luck alcoholic lawyer in Boston who accepts a medical malpractice case to improve his own situation, but discovers he is doing the right thing and serving justice as he prepares for trial, aided by his romance with divorcée Laura Fischer.
