What Is Democracy?

"What Is Democracy?" is a 2018 documentary film written and directed by Astra Taylor. The documentary blends everyday experience and political theory to address questions central to democracy, exploring the concept from Ancient Greece to contemporary issues, including the Greek debt crisis. Through interviews with academics, activists, politicians, and everyday people, Taylor examines the meaning and practice of democracy, suggesting that the current form may be flawed and urging a shift towards more direct democracy.
