Magnificent Obsession

In this melodrama remake of a 1929 novel, spoiled playboy Bob Merrick's reckless behavior leads to an accident that inadvertently kills Dr. Phillips, leaving his widow Helen. As Bob tries to make amends and find a soul in his carefree image, he falls for Helen and attempts to redeem himself through a new philosophy that guides her husband's success. With the help of other characters, including a mysterious friend who shares his own story, Bob discovers a sense of purpose and becomes determined to fulfill Dr. Phillips's legacy - and win Helen's heart.
