Waiting for the Barbarians

The film "Waiting for the Barbarians" tells the story of a Magistrate (Mark Rylance), who lives a routine existence respecting the rule of law, and the disquieting arrival of Colonel Joll (Johnny Depp), a ruthless colonial officer who uses brutal tactics to interrogate the locals about an impending uprising. As the Magistrate's efforts to understand and stop Joll's cruel methods fail, he must confront the harsh realities of colonialism and the devastating consequences of Joll's actions.
