Anita Minteer, a 16-year-old girl from a small town in Central California, struggles with abuse at home and school, until she connects with convict Howard Hickok through a pen-pal assignment. After Howard's release, the two form a loving bond, but Anita's violent past and present come back to haunt her, leading to a killing spree that puts her on the run with Howard.
