After a comet collision, nearly 8km wide asteroid Orpheus is on a collision course with Earth, threatening humanity's extinction. The United States and USSR join forces to stop it, using illegal nuclear weapon satellites "Hercules" and "Peter the Great". With time running out, both governments must agree to coordinate their efforts. Sean Connery stars as Paul Bradley, a key figure in this desperate bid to save the world.
