Firelight

Sophie Marceau plays Elisabeth Laurier, a French-speaking Swiss governess who agrees to bear a child for an anonymous English landowner, Charles Godwin (Stephen Dillane), in exchange for money to pay her father's debts. Seven years later, Elisabeth is hired as the governess of Charles's daughter, Louisa, who is also Elisabeth's own child. Elisabeth must balance her role as governess with her secret relationship with Charles, who is struggling to keep his creditors at bay and grapples with his wife's paralysis.
