L'enfant

L'Enfant (2005) is a drama film about a young Belgian mother, Sonia (Déborah François), who wants her boyfriend, Bruno (Jérémie Renier), a petty thief, to be gainfully employed to raise their newborn child. Instead, Bruno sells their baby to a black market adoption ring to make some quick cash. As a result, Bruno's mounting debts lead him down a path of desperation, culminating in him ending up in prison, where Sonia visits him, sharing a moment of despair. The film explores the complex moral issues surrounding a young couple's decision to abandon their child, and the dire consequences that follow.
