Sergio Benvenuti (Carlo Verdone), a shy door-to-door salesman, asks for help from Nadia Vandelli (Eleonora Giorgi), a more outgoing colleague, to improve his sales skills. Nadia agrees to take him with her, but Sergio becomes fascinated with Nadia's acquaintance with a colorful character, Cesare Cuticchia (Angelo Infanti), who claims to be a celebrity. Sergio assumes Cesare's identity and charms Nadia, but the charade is eventually revealed, leading to a passionate reunion between Sergio and Nadia years later.
