I basilischi

"I basilischi" (1963) is a comedy-drama film about three young men, Francesco, Sergio, and Antonio, living in a small, poverty-stricken village in Apulia and Basilicata, who struggle with apathy and provincialism. Antonio eventually declines an opportunity to move to Rome and instead returns to the village, symbolizing his commitment to his roots. The film is Lina Wertmüller's directorial debut, written and shot in the small towns of Minervino Murge and Palazzo San Gervasio.
