In this delightfully irreverent parody of ancient epics, a hapless garage mechanic for carts finds himself unwittingly at the forefront of a plot against the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar, played by Michel Serrault in a comedic tour de force. Amidst the absurdity, Ben-Hur Marcel (Coluche) is more concerned with his hairstyle and the drapery of Caesar's toga than actual politics. This French comedy, an homage to Monty Python's Life of Brian, cleverly skewers state power while poking fun at societal norms and cultural anachronisms, all set against a backdrop of ancient Rome and North Africa.
