Mysterious Island

Three Union soldiers, Capt. Cyrus Harding (Michael Craig), Herbert Brown (Michael Callan), and Neb Nugent (Dan Jackson), escape Libby Military Prison in Richmond, Virginia with a gas balloon and a Rebel guard, Pencroft (Percy Herbert). The balloon carries them west over the Pacific Ocean, where they crash land on an unknown island of tropical jungles and active volcanoes. There, they meet two unconscious English ladies, Lady Mary Fairchild (Joan Greenwood) and her niece Elena, who were also shipwrecked by a storm. Using one of the charts from a chest that washes ashore, the castaways plot their location and begin constructing a boat, ultimately discovering it was sent to them by Captain Nemo's submarine Nautilus, which has been secretly watching over them.
